Aiza wants to raise a family

Aiza Seguerra considers herself blessed. And not only because she happens to be the voice of the phenomenal hit Pagdating ng Panahon. She feels like walking on seventh heaven because she’s not an actress but a singer.

An actress, Aiza observes, is forced to be more conscious of her image and the actions that go with it. Not so with a singer like her. A singer - thank goodness - can be more of herself. He or she can just focus on expressing himself or herself in song without the fans wondering what he or she is doing during downtime or away from the klieg lights. Read: Aiza can tell the country, "Yes, I’m not a typical woman because my preferences are different," without feeling guilty or queasy about it.

She doesn’t have to pretend the way other stars (and there are many of them, mind you) out there do. Read: Aiza can admit she’s been carrying a relationship with a nonshowbiz girl (identity withheld upon request) for years.

But no, they’re not engaged like Ellen Degeneres is to her girlfriend only recently. Aiza is just happy she and the girl are doing great and that her parents and fans understand.

"The most important thing is for my parents to accept the situation," relates Aiza. "When they asked me about me pointblank, I told them the truth. I can’t lie to them, especially to my mom. My parents didn’t raise me up to be pretentious."

Had her parents shunned her for admitting who she really is, Aiza would have felt sad. But she won’t give up. Aiza says she’ll still try to convince mom and dad to see things her way just the same.

Besides, unlike other members of the third sex, Aiza wants to raise a family. And that includes bearing a child - via in-vitro fertilization, though. Aiza has it all figured out. She’ll get a sperm donor she doesn’t know from Adam and get to work.

The message is clear. Aiza doesn’t want to have any knowledge of the guy and vice-versa. The relationship is strictly for pro-creation purposes.

That’s the least of her worries for now, though. For now, Aiza is more concerned about joining the roster of platinum recording artist via Para Lang Sa ‘Yo (Songs Inspired by Ysabella) under Star Records. It’s her comeback album after four years, and Aiza is not taking any chances. Not when Star Records has promised to launch the album internationally.

For now, it’s close to turning platinum and making Aiza a hitmaker all over again. She co-wrote one track, the love song Sana Di Lang Puro Sana with Mike Villegas. Another track, Sa ‘Yo Lamang, is theme song of the hit Koreanovela airing on ABS-CBN.

Aiza promises fans will hear a different sound from what they listened to four years ago. This time, the voice you hear above the guitar sound has matured. The singing style is more defined.

"I’ve grown as an artist. I’ve found my niche. And I’ve also found myself a band of my own which accompanies me in the new album," relates Aiza.

She doesn’t let complacency get the better of her though. Aiza plays and replays her albums to find out how she can improve some more.

People who matter notice her efforts to be forever up on her toes. Atlantis Productions cast her as ex-TV star Gary Coleman in the upcoming musical, Avenue Q. She’ll join the cast and crew on a trip to Singapore, where the play is set for series of shows at the posh Esplanade from Aug. 25 to Nov. 6.

Many years ago, Aiza thought she was a has-been because she has reached the awkward stage when people just don’t want to see a former child star grow up. But she still performed in gigs, even if only two people were in the house to watch her.

Aiza didn’t care. All she cared about was the music.

Today, Aiza no longer performs before a sparse crowd. Far from it. The audience has come back. And the music continues.
